the scariest moment in a piece of clothing's life is ... it's first time being laundered. most (if not all) of the clothes that i own can be plunged into water (washed). not that i would do anything differently (meaning delay washing it as long as possible or dry-clean it), but every time i am about to wash a piece of clothing for the first time, i have the thought that, by washing it, i might be parting with it for good, that it might not come out of the wash in the same shape it went in, that the washing will ruin the clothing. (i do not care for dry cleaning, but i know for certain that, even if i opted to dry clean a piece of clothing, that thought would still be there -- except it would be that the clothing would not survive the dry cleaning, that the dry cleaning would ruin it.) more often than not, fortunately, the dreaded result of washing does not come to pass. the piece of clothing remains the same before and after laundering (except cleaner, of course) and lives on in my wardrobe for years to come. on the rare occasion, however, the dreaded result does come about. (it is probably the infrequency of the dreaded result coming to pass, and its unpredictability, that reinforces and gives life to the worry and fear of something bad happening every first washing.) what makes things worse, the dreaded result almost always comes to pass with a piece of clothing that i especially came to favour. all of which to say, there is an item of clothing that i am wearing here that i laundered for the first time and whose fate i am still awaiting -- things didn't look so positive when i pulled it out of the water. but i am remain hopeful that the drying process will bring it back to me.
i am wearing rundholz dip 125.
