plaid dress

once upon a time, there was a lot of plaid in my wardrobe. in fact, at some point, there was probably more plaid than anything else in my wardrobe. not so much these days. these days, it is mostly black, grey or (very rarely) some colour. solids. every once in a while some dots will appear. and, then, there are those very rare times when some other pattern, like plaid, will appear. this is one of only two plaid dresses that remain in my wardrobe. funny ... how i go from feast to famine (or from famine to feast)!

am wearing the alpen top, the tokyo hat (with added pin) and the delphi scarf by kaliyana. my dress, vest and trousers are by grizas. i am wearing the mondrian shoe (closed collection) by trippen.

I too wear mostly black and grey and feel very comfortable in these colours.
I never set out to buy these colours but always seem to end up with them!
The strange thing is if I do put on a brighter colour,I feel extremely uncomfortable and "on show".Seeing as I wear clothes that stand out as being quirky and perhaps daring,it doesn't make sense really.

I think one of the things that I love so much about your blog is how you've refined your style. i am all over the place, which is okay theoretically, but I'd love a uniform-ish wardrobe. It seems like all your stuff looks brilliant together. Consistent but always varied, if that makes sense.

Do you shop online much? I'm guessing there's a Kaliyana shop where you are? I find the online store uninspiring. Your styling and look is much better.

jean: your comment about my uniform-ish wardrobe is so accurate. i have to confess that, while i generally like the consistency of my wardrobe, sometimes, i wish that i could have many different "looks" ... at the same time in my life. but i just can't manage that. i think it is because of who i am. in many aspects of my life, when i try something, i have this need to become expert in it. i guess i just don't have the capacity to be expert at too many things at the same time. so i dive deep into one thing or a couple of things, work at it until i tire of it and then move on. or, maybe, a uniform-ish wardrobe just gives me some order in an otherwise chaotic life. or, who knows?

as for my kaliyana wardrobe, yes, i am fortunate enough to find myself often enough in a city that has a bricks and mortar kaliyana shop. i occasionally shop for kaliyana online, but usually for pieces that i have some familiarity with from my bricks and mortar shopping. i have recently starting shopping online for rundholz. that has proven somewhat frustrating, due to the fact that the sizing isn't consistent from one line to the next. but, i persevere in this endeavour ... because i just need as much rundholz as i can get my hands on!

I'll have to take another look at Rundholz. Typically I need to see things in person, feel the fabric, hold it up to gauge sizing etc. I've never bought anything on line except for two pairs of shoes from a company that I know fit me well. Plus, I'm scared of opening up the Pandora's box of on-line shopping. I know my weaknesses. I'm irresponsible and powerless when it comes to fabulous clothing. Plus, there's always more....

I do love your description of how you assess your potential purchases, and refine your choices. That's an exquisite pleasure right there.

jean: you are so right about online shopping being a pandora's box!
