Chilling Out

I was going to write that I took the day off work today to chill, but then I realized that, while I did take the day off work today, I spent the better part of it doing bureaucratic chores, like taxes and renewing my driver's licence, not chilling at all!  I can say though that I did wear something appropriate for chilling.
And, maybe, for doing bureaucratic chores as well, many of which involved a lot of sitting and waiting to be called on in government offices.  Who wants to dress up for that?  The blue outfit I wore this past Saturday, when I really did chill out.

The Sunburnt Zebra

Whenever I wear black, white and red together, I am reminded of the bad joke, "What is black and white and red all over?  The sunburnt zebra".  I wore this "sunburnt zebra"outfit on Monday.  And, yes, it seems as if I can't get enough of the souvenir Canada scarf.

The Boyfriend Jean

Today, I read two posts on two separate blogs about the boyfriend jean.  One post wasn't identifiably about the boyfriend jean, but about jeans that are larger in size than one's "true" size (whatever that may be).  I consider all "larger than one's true size" jeans as boyfriend jeans, so I considered the post to be about the boyfriend jean.  When I read these posts, I thought about how odd it was that I happened to be wearing the boyfriend jean today and so would be posting about it at the end of the day.  For a brief period of time this morning (before I even read any blogs), I could have gone with a somewhat more original outfit:  Right before I left for work this morning, I actually thought about putting on my denim bubble skirt instead of the boyfriend jean.  But I decided that I didn't have time to change, so I stuck with the boyfriend jean.  So, maybe, today, you will find that there is one post too many on the boyfriend jean!

Red And Rosy Scarf For A Winter Day

I am laying low for the next couple of days, in terms of engaging in activities outside of work.  It snowed yesterday, and it was cold yesterday and today (wind chills in the double digits below zero degrees celsius).  I don't want to accept that Winter is refusing to go and the best way that I know to live in denial of the weather is to stay at home and watch DVDs.  So that is what I am going to do, when I don't have to be at work.  I will emerge when Spring does!

The "If Girl Scouts Wore Black Outfit"

I wore this "If Girl Scouts Wore Black Outfit" yesterday.  One person at work actually got it, and that thrilled me to bits.

Thinking Of Candy Floss Jacket

I credit Paul Smith for inspiring me to pair together different plaids, plaid and gingham and plaid and prints.  Before Paul Smith came into my life, I only ever wore one plaid or print at a time.  Paul Smith may also be responsible for my experimenting with colour combinations.  I am glad that I wore pink/fuschia today, such cheery, Spring-y colours.  It is supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow.  I am hoping that the cheeriness and Spring-iness of the pink/fuschia will rub off on me and carry me through the next few days of decidedly un-Springlike weather!

The 90s Booties

Sadly (perhaps), I am not all that attuned to what makes for an 80s outfit or a 90s outfit.  I know that the 80s were marked by excess, whereas the 90s were marked by minimalism (oh and I think that there was a "grunge" period in the 90s too), but, beyond that, I couldn't really say if something was distinctly 80s or 90s.  When I bought the booties that I wore today, the shop clerk who was helping me said that they were very 90s.  Are they?  I just liked them.

The Souvenir Scarf

I think that I will wear a skirt version of today's outfit later this week.  I really like the sweater/souvenir scarf combination, and paired with a skirt (with a "wide-ish" belt) and shiny black lace-up boots, I think that it will look a lot like a vintage-inspired girl scout outfit (if girl scouts of yore wore black).  I am not sure why girl scouts on are my mind.  Could it have something to do with the arrival of Spring?

The Blue (Not Suede) Shoes

I had the opportunity today to see "in real life" some pieces from the Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe Spring 2011 ready-to-wear collections.  I have admired the work of Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe for some time now, so to be able to see the clothes "in real life", rather than just in print or on a computer screen, meant a lot to me.  I was near to salivating.  If only I had limitless financial resources.  (I do know that Comme des Garcons collaborated with H&M in 2010, but I was not among those who were lucky enough to have snagged some of the pieces in that collection.)  Sigh!

The Drum Majorette Jacket

When I was a child, I had a baton.  I don't think that I ever succeeded in doing anything stellar with it.  Fortunately, my never having come anywhere close to being a drum majorette doesn't mean that I can't today be inspired by a drum majorette's costumes.  I acquired my "Drum Majorette Jacket" this past Fall, when I was admiring (and thinking that I would be sporting) the retro varsity style.  I didn't end up wearing much in the way of the retro varsity style, which isn't a surprise to me, because I rarely end up dressing as I think I want to be dressing.  I still do admire retro varsity style and, who knows, maybe some day I will wear more of it, likely when I am thinking that I will be wearing some other style!

The Accordion Pleat Jumper Dress

My stack of "to be mended, hemmed or otherwise fixed" clothing is growing.  Most of this clothing is for the Summer, and, if I don't get a move on it, it won't be ready for this Summer (which would probably be a shame --  for me -- as there are many pieces in the pile that I really like).  Every time that I have added to the pile, usually during the week, I have pictured myself being leisurely industrious the coming weekend hemming or mending or what have you.  Unfortunately, that picture of myself hasn't manifested itself into reality yet.  Looking ahead to this weekend, which is already filled with planned activities, I don't think that it will be happening this weekend either.  Perhaps next weekend?  If we were face-to-face right now, you would see that my facial expression isn't indicating anything positive in this regard!

The Amelia Earhart Outfit

There are photos of Amelia Earhart from her last flight in which she wears a plaid shirt (which looks like a large gingham check shirt), a scarf tied around the neck of the shirt (one of her signatures) and belted trousers.  I was thinking of these pictures of Amelia Earhart when I put together today's outfit.  For me, Amelia Earhart was a master at mixing the masculine and feminine (and not just in clothing).  It is one of the reasons why I am so fascinated with her.  And, since I am sort of "in the past", speaking of Amelia Earhart, I will stay there:  The boots that I wore today remind me of another pair of boots, a pair that I wore (to their death) when I was at university.  This didn't occur to me the other day, when I wore these same boots.  A lot of the things that I am wearing these days seem to be reminding me of my university days (and my university wardrobe).  Am I regressing in style?

And The Band Played On Jacket

The jacket that I wore today came from the same company as the jacket that I wore yesterday, but today's jacket arrived on my doorstep intact.  Having no belt, I guess that the chances were better that it would arrive intact.  Also, it is at least three years old.  Perhaps those were just better times!  I promise that, after today, I will speak no more of the sad story behind the "Sad Story Jacket".
