sometimes it is a piece of clothing that awaits the right time. sometimes it is footwear.

one of my favourite audrey hepburn films is funny face. if you have seen the film, you will remember the scene at the beginning of the film in which the fashion shoot descends upon the book store in which audrey hepburn's character works. in that scene, audrey wears a brown tweed-y button-up tunic over a black mock neck top and brown slim-ish skirt. from the moment i laid eyes on that funny face outfit, i knew that i would forever be looking to recreate it for myself ... in some fashion. when i put together the outfit that i am wearing here, i was very much reminded of that funny face outfit.

sometimes i forget that putting an outfit together is a creative process that takes time and can be work. it doesn't always just happen. i need to remind myself that, in a creative process, failure can be a step towards success. it is all good.

maybe it isn't so much that i want to wear more rather than less clothing. maybe it is that i need certain pieces of clothing, mostly skirts and dresses, to be of a certain length. if they aren't, i need to somehow make them that length and that ends up being adding another layer of clothing of the right length. see figures 1 and 2 above. two different dress/jacket combos with the same problem. they hit at a place below the knee that i just don't like. solution: make the outfit hit at the appropriate place below the knee by adding cropped trousers underneath the dress.

i know how to sew. i know how to do alterations. that said, i have a pretty strict rule against purchasing anything that requires alterations or modifications. why? because finding time to do alterations or modifications to clothing is difficult. if i buy something that needs altering, it can sometimes be months ... even years ... before i get around to it. the skirt that i am wearing here is a case in point. it is part of the rundholz dip s/s 2014 collection. i wanted to wear it when i bought it and i wanted to wear it last spring/summer. but it needed some modifications to the waistband. i finally got around to making those modifications. maybe this is just another example of clothing waiting for the right time.

i have been growing my rundholz collection for three consecutive spring/summers. doing so, i now have enough spring/summer pieces to start mixing up the different collections. this is providing endless amounts of fun.

i love berries ... strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries ... really i do ... it is my fruit of choice ... i am not professing a love of berries just because some of the colours in this spring/summer rundholz black label collection bear the names of some berries (wearing blueberry here) ... but how great is it ... for me ... that two loves have come together like this.

i have been browsing through the rundholz black label lookbooks from s/s 2014, 2015 and 2016. in each one, there is some version of the dress that i am wearing here (which is from s/s 2015). sadly ... for me ... i can't get my hands on lookbooks from before a/w 2013/2014. so i am wondering ... is this a dress that has more versions than just the ones of which i am aware. and, in case you are wondering ... i only have the s/s 2015 version of this dress. i consciously passed on the s/s 2016 version of the dress ... reasoning that, with the s/s 2015 version in my closet and too much else that was interesting on offer in the s/s 2016 collection, it made good economic sense to do so. i only embarked in earnest on my rundholz journey in s/s 2014. i don't remember whether the opportunity to own the s/s 2014 version of the dress was there for me. in any case, i don't have the s/s 2014 dress. but are there more of these from before s/s 2014? if there are, i would so be interested in seeing them ... just for curiosity's sake.

oscar wilde's "the canterville ghost". it is a story that i have not yet read. but i am going to make it one of my summer reads this year. it seems fitting.

mixing dip and black label clothes here. plus ... new shoes ... black label this time. (the silver ones worn in previous posts are from the main line.) i am in dire need (yes need ... not want ... or maybe want ... oh who cares) of more cropped low rise trousers ... like the ones i am wearing here ... or the red ones i wore in previous rundholz posts. they work so well with tunics and short dresses. and are such a solution to this layer-er's dilemma of how to layer in spring/summer.
