more wine please dress and skirt

all of a sudden, the layers drop away. not all of them (at least not yet), but some of them. but i can't help but wonder for how long. as much as it feels like spring weather is coming (well, of course it is), winter weather usually doesn't let go quite so easily. so there is this sense of trepidation: don't let go of those winter dressing skills just yet, in favour of those spring flings. just wait. dressing always seems to be ninety percent just waiting (anticipating) and ten percent living in the moment. i am working on changing this.

i am wearing the l/s square dress, the escape skirt, the (woollen) long side top and the tokyo hat (with added flower pin) by kaliyana. my boots are the noon boot (box collection) by trippen.

an awareness that spring is on its way dress

i don't know what it is this year, but i am super aware that spring is on its way. this feeling has nothing to do with the weather, what the date is or the sudden appearance of spring/summer clothing in stores. or, maybe, it is all of this and then some. whatever it is, i feel a certain anxiety about having to switch from figuring out what to wear for winter to figuring out what to wear for spring (and then summer).

i am wearing the alpen top, the tokyo hat (with added pin) and the (woollen) long side top by kaliyana. my dress and trousers are by grizas. i am wearing the rectangle boot (closed collection) by trippen.

sometimes happiness is having no new choices pullover

recently, i said that, for me, having new clothing isn't so much about having the next new thing as much as it is about having some new means of expressing myself. oddly, i am often thrilled when there are no new things to choose from. sometimes, having new means of expressing myself isn't as fun/creative as finding a new way of using old means of expressing myself. a new expression derived from old means.

i am wearing the alpen top and the tokyo hat (with an added flower pin) by kaliyana. my dress and trousers are by grizas and my pullover is by rundholz (black label). i am wearing the mondrian shoe (closed collection) by trippen.

if i were felicity pullover

during the lifetime of this blog, i know that i have mentioned (at least once) that one of my favourite now defunct tv series is felicity (for the record, i have many favourites in this category). in the first season of that series, felicity is known for all the sweaters that she wears. as someone who adores sweaters, i can say that the fact that sweaters featured so prominently in felicity's wardrobe that first season made it my favourite season of the series. the pullover that i am wearing here brings to mind a ralph lauren roll neck pullover that felicity once wore. this would be the pullover that i would wear (instead of the ralph lauren roll neck pullover) if i were felicity.

i am wearing the anemone top, the around pant, the (woollen) long side top and the tokyo hat (with added pin) by kaliyana. my boots are the pluto boot (closed collection) by trippen.

when the excitement fizzles out skirt

the other day, i was wearing what i would call a tried-and-true outfit -- one that has seen many wears*. although i am still fond of the outfit and happy wearing it, i find myself no longer excited about wearing it. it feels like i have been seen in the outfit so many times and ... well ... maybe it hasn't lead to the understanding of me that i thought it would lead to. my desire for new clothes isn't so much about having another new thing as much as it is about having a new way to present myself to the world. i think that, deep down, one of the few things that every person wants from everyone around him or her is to be understood. different people go about telling their stories in different ways. for me, clothing is very definitely a means of expressing myself. perhaps when i feel i am truly understood will be the day when i will no longer need that next new piece of clothing.

*to be clear, i am not talking about the outfit pictured in this post.

i am wearing the alpen top, the brasilia dress, the amazing skirt and the tokyo hat (with added pin) by kaliyana. my pullover is by grizas. i am wearing the noon boot (box collection) by trippen.
